Stephen is an AI Engineer at Torrey Pines Law Group®, focusing on enterprise automation, intelligent process optimization, and applied artificial intelligence systems. Over the past six years, he has engineered scalable software across the legal technology, healthcare, aerospace defense, and artificial intelligence sectors. With a technical background grounded in computational science and mathematics, Stephen specializes in architecting end-to-end automation pipelines, integrating large language models (LLMs) into production workflows, and developing quantitative evaluation tools that streamline complex data processing.
At Torrey Pines Law Group®, Stephen spearheads initiatives to integrate AI-driven workflows and autonomous systems into the firm’s daily legal and administrative operations. His work centers on digitizing and indexing legacy paper assets into structured, searchable digital ecosystems, significantly reducing administrative overhead and accelerating matter preparation. By engineering custom workflow pipelines and intelligent document processing agents, Stephen enhances operational efficiency across the firm, enabling attorneys and technical staff to navigate records rapidly, eliminate repetitive tasks, and focus on high-value client advocacy.
Prior to his current role, Stephen developed robust software across highly regulated and mission-critical industries. In healthcare technology, he engineered enterprise-grade unified automation frameworks for backend APIs, complex SQL data models, and front-end interfaces, standardizing AI testing practices across engineering teams. Earlier in his career, he developed real-time simulation software for aerospace defense platforms at General Atomics, building critical flight sensor, malfunction, and servo-control models in C and C++, alongside automated Python validation suites. In the legal technology space, he has also architected automated client intake and matter-brief systems that synchronize consultation records and generate engagement agreements seamlessly.
Beyond his engineering career, Stephen has dedicated more than eight years to education as an independent private tutor throughout the San Diego region. He has mentored dozens of secondary and Advanced Placement students across challenging analytical curricula, including calculus, physics, chemistry, and computer science, emphasizing disciplined problem-solving methodologies. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics with an emphasis in Computational Science and a Minor in Computer Science from San Diego State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Outside of technical architecture and engineering, Stephen maintains an active international travel schedule, flying to Vietnam every other month to spend time with family. Recently married to his wife, Thanh, in January 2026, he balances engineering cutting-edge systems with staying closely connected across continents. When he is not writing code, teaching, or catching up with his wife, you can regularly find him unwinding with his favorite movie, About Time.
