Dr. Zhang received her Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Minnesota, and her Juris Doctor from Seattle University. Her 20 years of life science industry experience spans across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical devices. She has worked for industry leaders as well as startups and consulting firms.
While at Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a division of Johnson & Johnson), Dr. Zhang managed medical affairs for the northwest region in a variety of therapy areas, including infectious diseases, hematology, endocrinology, gastrointestinal diseases, and pain management. She led the region and successfully launched new products by training sales teams and educating healthcare professionals. To help provide patients with access to medications, Dr. Zhang developed scientific evidence to support insurance claims and hospital formulary reviews. Besides contributing to clinical trial designs and execution, Dr. Zhang reviewed and approved promotional materials for scientific validity.
At Questcor (a biotech startup acquired by Mallinckrodt), Dr. Zhang worked closely with key opinion leaders to generate clinical data for orphan drugs, and educating healthcare professionals on the latest discoveries for rare diseases.
To leverage her expertise from pharmaceuticals to medical devices, Dr. Zhang worked at Medtronic, followed by a MedTech startup and a consulting firm. At Medtronic, Dr. Zhang served as a senior principal clinical scientist. She worked with cross-functional teams on clinical trial designs and executions. She also provided surgeon trainings for Investigational Device Exempt (IDE) studies, consulting during investigational device procedures, and leading the scientific advisory board. Dr. Zhang’s field clinical expertise was critical for intellectual property evaluation during mergers and acquisitions. She worked in a variety of business units at Medtronic, including orthopedic surgery for spinal disorders, minimally invasive therapies, and neurovascular diseases. Her expertise in pharmacology was the foundation of her role as the subject matter expert for biologics, as well as helping her in the review and approval of clinical evaluation reports, including state of the art analysis.
At the MedTech startup and the consulting firm, Dr. Zhang works closely with the USFDA on IDE study designs for a variety of products, such as surgical instruments for atrial fibrillation, ventilators for sleep apnea, medical device for Alzheimer disease, surgical implant for periodontal disease, and apps for diabetes continuous glucose monitoring.
